Ticket Options
Reserving your seats at Wimbledon can be a challenge, much like acing a 120 mph serve. Here we cover reserved and paid tickets, as well as free and last minute options. What you get and how much you pay will largely depend on how much you are willing to leave to chance vs having a guaranteed spot on your date choice.
Wimbledon Advance Tickets

- The Public Ballot – allows you to place your name in the draw for tickets and if chosen, you may buy them at face value. You may not request specific courts, dates or matches, as they are chosen randomly by a computer. The ballot is free to join and if you are chosen, Wimbledon will contact you with a window to purchase tickets. The online ballot is usually open the fall prior to the tournament and notifications are ongoing from February through the early rounds of the tournament.
Wimbledon Tickets During Tournament
- Wimbledon Tickets at Ticketmaster – Primary Official Seller. Several hundred Centre Court and No.3 Court tickets are sold online the day before each match throughout the early part of the tournament.
- The Queue – A limited number of tickets are available daily for Centre Court, No.1 and No.2 Courts on the early days of the tournament (not the last 4 days). You can buy premium tickets on the day of play for Centre Court and No.2 Court for Days 1-9 and No.1 Court for Days 1-13. There is one Queue for the on-day sale of tickets at the Gate 3 turnstiles, one per person. Bring your overnight camping equipment if you want Centre Court tickets – The Queue is not for the mild tennis fan.
- Returned and Reserved Tickets – A small number of returned tickets are available via Ticketmaster for Centre Court and No.3 Court daily during the tournament. Returned tickets go on sale 48 hrs before the date of play. Reserved tickets go on sale at 9am each morning for the following day’s play.

Recent Changes at Wimbledon
- Wimbledon introduced middle Sunday, making it a 14 day tournament, in line with the other Grand Slams. This schedule spreads the fourth round matches over two days.
- The Grand Slam Board, made up of representatives from all four Slams, announced the implementation of a 10-point tie-break played at 6-6 in the final set at the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open.
- Retractable Roofs – No more rain delays. Both Centre Court and Court No. 1 have retractable roofs, so book your tickets with 100% confidence all matches will proceed as scheduled.

Wimbledon Insider Tips Q&A
1. How do you Queue for Wimbledon Tickets?
Queuing has been a Wimbledon tradition for years and just about every local I’ve met has queued for tickets at some point. How early you get in line and how much you invest in your experience depends on the kind of tickets you want. For show court tickets, you’ll have to arrive the day before play or very early that morning. A limited number of tickets are available daily for Centre Court, No.1 Court and No.2 Court, except for the last four days on Centre Court, when all are sold in advance.
However, for grounds tickets, you can arrive the day of play. For example, we arrived at about 12pm and were in the door by 1pm with our grounds passes. During the early rounds, you’ll get to see tons of great players from unreserved seating and standing room on Courts No.3 – 18, and since it’s such a small time and money investment, it’s totally worth it. Show court play does not start until 1pm, so plenty of times, people cannot stay through 3 matches. They often return their tickets to the resale kiosks, who then resell them during the day and proceeds go to charity.
2. Can You Bring Food and Drink Into Wimbledon?
Yes! You may bring one bottle of wine and most any food into Wimbledon. Of course, there’s plenty of choices on hand, including Pimm’s, Strawberries and Cream and lots of other meals. The prices are actually quite reasonable, so consider whether you want to lug all your food. But yes, plenty of people bring their own alcohol and snacks, park themselves on Henman Hill (aka Murray Mound) and watch the greats play on the big screen behind Court 1.
3. What Can You Do at Wimbledon with Grounds Passes?
There is so much to do at Wimbledon without ever stepping foot in to a Show Court. Of course, we all want to watch the action from Centre Court, but there is plenty of tennis to watch and things to do on the grounds. There are something like 15 other courts besides the three courts. There is also the Hill, just behind Court 1, with a huge lawn and screens where plenty of fans park themselves and picnic watching the greats play tennis and taking in the vibes.
5. Can You Buy Grounds Passes in Advance for Wimbledon?
No, Grounds Passes are only available on the day of match play by queuing.
4. Where Are the Best Seats at Wimbledon?
Most tennis fans agree that seats on the baseline are best for watching the action. However any way you can get yourself into Centre Court is the way to do it! In 2019, I had the privilege of sitting second row, Gangway 112 Row B for the Federer/Nadal Semi Finals and let me tell you, it was one of the greatest days of my life.
